if non hd tv: maybe can play 720 but NOT 1080
if hd: it plays BEST W/hdmi cable (1 size fits all (ps3 and 360)) but NOT REQUIRED!
EDIT: but it looks SOO much better with i recommend getting it (cheap at Amazon.com)

yes, you'll need an HDMI cable or at least converter. however there's many different types of hdmi cables you can use, let me know what size port you have back there and i'll pull up a list of viable options.

the standard one again, there's many different types you can use. which he/she should go with depends on their monitor's specs. what you linked won't be nearly as efficient as one that can take full advantage of hs's hardware.

if you have an XBOX 360 or Playstation 3 and any tv with an HDMI input in it, no it will be standard 100% of the time

just because it's a standard size port does not mean this is the right cable for them. we don't know how many pixels their monitor can handle/the refresh rate nor how far away it is from the console.
