Overrated movies?

A lot of the movies named in this thread aren't technically overrated because they aren't critically praised in the first place. Forrest Gump, if you look at its Tomatometer or ever listen to snobby pseudo-intellectuals discuss it, is very underrated. The 1995 equivalent of hipsters decided it was shit because it beat Pulp Fiction for the Oscar and here we are two decades later and the movie gets no respect. You'd think it was Crash, for fuck's sake.

I'm not saying it's bad by any means I just believe it overrated is all lol. I'm not hating or anything. It's just not my cup of tea yo.

Subtitles people...... But I don't think there are great terror cinema in Eu. In Spain we have Rec, but it's on the style of paranormal activity.
A good Spanish movie is The orphanage, but is not the kind of terror that will scare you badly. But at least is good. Another good one is The others...

@Slik, I think Eminem was pretty good if you compare him with another singers in movies. even with some actors...the movie was great to me, so I hope he won't do another.

It's normal that 8 Mile is overrated here, sometimes we forget this is an Eminem fórum. Maybe people who say is their favorite móvie are too young and didn't see much movies. They are Eminem fans so make the equation.

But stil trying to be impartial , the movie was good and he did a good job.

I liked probably the last 20, 15m of Rec, haven't seen "The Grudge" but i'm not much into asian movies for some reason..

Martyrs is amazing. A Serbian Film was pretty good too. It would actually be substantially better without the more extreme shock value scenes (the baby scene is too stupid to even be disturbing), but overall it's an effective and entertaining film. Fuckin' Martryrs, though. Great movie.

Loved "Martyrs" also, and yes "A Serbian Film" sometimes takes it way too far in an extreme way, but it's great nevertheless. I watched Salo, it's a good movie actually, really sick though! I got "Canibal Holocaust" but haven't watched it yet...

Hostel is that good shit, especially Part II. Eli Roth's new cannibal movie The Green Inferno is due out sometime next year. Looking forward to that.

Salo and Cannibal Holocaust are both really great films imo. Salo is a masterpiece. As gruesome as the imagery is, I find it more disturbing on a psychological level because of the inhuman treatment of the victims. It's far from an easy watch, but it's powerful and technically great. Morricone's theme for the movie is some of his best work and Pasolini was a truly gifted filmmaker who unfortunately was murdered by his country's government for making the film (or at least that's what I and many others believe). Cannibal Holocaust is the original found footage horror film, and it's so much better than any of the sorry imitations today. I wish it didn't have the real animal killings, but at least the meat didn't go to waste.

Agree, it's more disturbing on a psychological level, so is "Martyrs"...i've heard about Pasolini being murdered after the movie was made, but don't know much else about it..."Canibal Holocaust" i downloaded it a while ago but have yet to watch it...you should check out "Inside" also, a french movie, even though i thought it was a litle over the top with the shock value and gore i think it's worth watching

I've heard about Inside. I need to see that. Have you seen Irreversible? It's not horror, but it falls under the New French Extremism umbrella. Deeply upsetting, but a superb film. Enter the Void is great too, if a bit silly at times. I'd rather see a highly ambitious film that goes a bit off the rails than something generic.

Heard about "Irreversible" also, have to check it out And i agree with you rather see all of the above then the generic, slasher, crappy horror movies out there. And i enjoyed "The Human Centipede" both of them, the second one being way more shocking, loved the black and white i think they're both great, totally different and original!
