Old layout or switch to vbulletin

I don't feel there's a need to move away from PHPBB - I'd expect the migration work to be a fair bit of work too. I'm pretty comfortable with PHPBB - and with a good theme, I reckon it'd suffice.

HeySamantha, can I ask for you to take up the role of keeping track of suggestions regarding a new layout, then create a poll once we have a decent shortlist? Unless I have strong objection to the winner - I'll make the switch.

tbh it seems like I'm always the one that actually posts layout suggestions. People either hate change or don't know what they want.

Why not just use something like this, which looks more modern?

Bonus.. a lot of them also come as dark and light combos. This is the light version

Something like that would make people happy and it would be easy to switch back and forth, people could use whatever one they want. The codes are the same so they should translate well between dark or light.

PHPBB is still under active development, the most recent version (which we are now on) having been released only three months ago. Further, it's open source - which I support fully, along with the entire stack behind the server - Nginx, MySQL etc. I'm not against paying for software, but I feel PHPBB have done a great job - and I've never been one for the gimmicks of anything that takes away from the discussion. If there was to be a change, it's be along the lines of the 'Discourse' project that I'd be looking.

Do not that it's PHPBB we're talking about, not PHP, which is the programming language the forum software is written in - which matches that of vBullein, InvisionBoard and many others.

I've made a change to the font size, you may need to clear your browsers cache to see this. We will be staying on PHPBB for the moment - I feel no reason to invest time into VB just yet, but rest assured I'll continue to tweak this layout, until a better theme comes along.

I'm going to need to get back to technical issues such as the search and other request omissions. Bear with me for the moment.

Not really imo, most want the old one back. They only want it back because that's what they're used to, though. They'd get used to a new one


Why don't we just keep this one (the old one that just flipped back) and edit the colours on it?
