Computer to TV

yo, I need help with connecting my computer to my tv...I got a brand new computer, Packard Bell, and an old tv....I've got a S-Video cabel which I've used before on another computer, but this time it just won't work...anyone got a trick to tell me or somethin' else to help me with?
