The American Pledge of Allegiance

As most Americans know (or maybe not), the original Pledge did not inlude the words 'under God'. It wasn't until 1954 and the 'Communist Red Scare' that President Eisenhower made the altercation to it.

Do yuo believe 'under God' should be removed?

Since there is no god, I'd rather it removed.

But it's not a big issue really, to me at least.

I don't mind it at all. I love how it's such a big deal to change the marriage laws, but the government is totally fine with changing our Pledge of Allegiance.

But the same could be said about promoting Christianity with the words being left in, which is sort of what its attempt was in the 1950s.

No, removing it would be promoting freedom of religion. In no way was "Under God" referring to anything but the Christian God. It does not mean Allah, nor any other God or Gods that people believe in. It has nothing to do with promoting atheism, but it has everything to do with freedom of religion.

Note how our declaration of independence uses the word Creator and not God.
We hold these truths to be self-evident: That all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; that, to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed

I just love how America assumes everyone believes in God and is a Christian though lol. There are a whole lot of atheists in America. Like Insane said, if you don't believe in it then DON'T SAY IT. You have the right not to say it, no matter what your teachers tell you in school. They can't make you say the pledge. Takes away the purpose of "being free."

The difference is that creator can mean anything from God to your parents. God just means God.
