Shady Records in 2014

Everything related to the record label Shady Records, including Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf.

Shady Records in 2014

Postby OutlawƎ » Jul 26th, '14, 00:39

I understand where Em came from when he signed Yelawolf and Slaughterhouse in 2011. They're all pretty dope lyricists and, from what I've heard, all had pretty good records out prior to be signed to Shady Records, the almighty label which dominated the charts in 2002/2003 .
But ... What the FUCK happened?
Back then, 50 Cent and Obie Trice were the main acts of Shady Records (other than Eminem, of course) and, believe it or not, 50 and Obie were EXPOSED and PROMOTED by both the label and Eminem himself.
In 2002, 50 and Obie both made numerous apperances on the 8 mile soundtrack, Wanksta and Rap Name were even released as singles and got music videos which were actually played by radio stations or MTV. 50's album was promoted like hell and sold pretty damn well. Obie went platinum too and both artists were reguarly backed by Eminem (ESPECIALLY 50) .

But that was 2002/2003.

After that, Shady wasn't really the #1 hyped and loved label on the planet but it was still well known and even put out The Re-Up .
Em went on a hiatus after that, 'Curtis' flopped, 'Second Rounds on me' flopped and who the fuck are Ca$his, Bobby Creek and Stat Quo anyway.
Blah blah blah, then the BET Cypher 2011 arrived and Shady 2.0 had the rap fans buzzing.

NOW, in 2014, ALL of that buzz is gone (in fact, it was gone the moment when Slaughterhouse released their 2012 album..uurgh)
Shady Records doesn't promote its artists that well anymore, Em doesn't do shit with them and outside of TR the vast majority of people don't give a flying fuck about yela, SH or Shady Records itself.

Long post, I know but why do y'all think Shady basically stopped giving a fuck about its artists?

Eminem and his management is more invested in promoting merchandise for a label that's no longer household or relevant than providing basic advertisement to help establish his signed artists.

I think the most part of this shit is benind fucking Interscope Records.
They simply don't give a fuck about artists like Yela or SH, who is talented guys, ya know.
The only thing that Interscope cares is MONEY, and in their opinion Shady Records artists can't make money for them now, as it was in 02/03. Shady Records always was a part of Interscope empire, so...
Plus stupid strategy to promote artists on Shady.
Anyway would be dope as f, if Shady camp goes independent, but that probably never happened.

Yeah. It's a brand now. Not even a music label.

Just get Love Story out and the label can fuck off and fade away like Death Row.

But Yela is serious artist that cares about his craft, unlike the lazy shits that are Slaughterhouse.

If Yela and SH flop, Shady Records should just die.

No, I don't think should have.

Being on Shady gave him an international load of new fans, I was talking to my friend in Colombia the other day who said that he listened to Yelawolf and so did a lot of the people on his block. If Yela would have stayed independent, he would right now be scraping money together to barely even start recording his sophomore.

Being on Shady also helped Yela grow as an artist, he saw what happened with Radioactive through trial and error and that helped his grow and motivate him to make this next album.

It's the artist and the music that should matter. That's it. Stop bitching about how shitty a label Shady/Interscope is. It's a waste of time and energy. That's not directed to OP as much as it is to numbskulls like Mike_88.

Who askin you? Fuckin "Smartest head on TRShady". I think that's the reasons, and Its just my opinion.
And what music you try to ofer to listen? The music that is never coming out? Oh, ok.
