Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't you saying Jay-Z was more lyrical than Em in the Renegade thread? What did Em say that was unnecessary that sacrificed a message for a rhyme?

If it wasn't you, my bad.

I've said I think Jay's second verse is the best, but all of the verses on that song are practically perfect. I don't think Eminem sacrificed anything for a rhyme on that song.

Accor wrote:The only reason I said that though is because in the OP, Menzo said that he was highlighting the rhymes on the supposed Relapse 2 songs to see how "lyrical" it would be, like that's all it takes lol. I believe Underground rhymes a lot but it definitely isn't a lyrical masterpiece.

No fuckin' shit Einstein, you think of that yourself? Rhyming is part of lyricism, that's why a ton of rappers call Slaughterhouse "super lyrical", even Em called them super lyrical. They must be wrong, all of them.

Rhyming is often considered to be a part of the technical aspect of rap, along with flows/cadence. Lyricism is what the rapper is saying. Rhyming can be considered an aspect of lyricism but it isn't the only part. This is supposed to be a lyrical appreciation thread but all you're doing is highlighting rhymes.

What I said about the OP is true. You were making it seem like a lot of rhymes makes something good lyrically. Weren't you defending Crooked I's verse on Throw It Away because it rhymes well? Didn't you highlight them in an effort to defend the verse?

I don't understand why you brought up Slaughterhouse :s Each individual member (other than Crooked I) is capable of writing a verse that isn't rhyming incoherently and I don't think they're considered "lyrical miracle" rappers.

I fuckin' said that, retard. Stop trying to make Hip-Hop so black and white, like it's textbook shit. When I think of lyricism, I think of the writing; schemes, rhyming, flow, content, concepts. I'm focusing on the rhyming aspect which in turn pays respect to the schemes as well.

I mentioned the work "lyrical" once in the OP. Fuck off. And no, that wasn't me.

But the threads title is "lyrical appreciation". Shouldn't you be focusing on every aspect of lyricism? Why rhymes? Flow is defined as rhythm and rhymes. It's broken down into rhyming, rhyme schemes, and cadence. Isn't that basically what you're appreciating here? You basically ignore what's actually being said in the verse, as long as it rhymes a lot, it's lyrical right?

And so what if you only mentioned it once lol. You basically said that if it rhymes a lot it's great.

Menzo wrote:I'm not talking individually, if I meant it individually then I would've said it. Listen to interviewers, other rappers or Em - everyone calls them a super lyrical crew. Lyrical. And you know God damn right they're just referring to rhyming.

Why would I think they were referring to rhyming? If someone tells me to listen to a rapper and describes him as super lyrical, I'm not going to expect Crooked I. I'm going to expect Lupe Fiasco and Mos Def.

Crooked I rhymes and maximizes the use of cadence more than both of them, but is he better lyrically? I can't think of anyone that thinks so.

You're seething brah :''( All I'm trying to say is that just because a verse rhymes a lot, doesn't mean it's great.

Oh thank God I'm not the only one haha.

I feel like there's something infinitely complex about the song that I'm just too dumb to decipher...
