Deja Vu > Beautiful

Postby MikeNUFC » Feb 20th, '10, 12:23

I know most Em fans absolutely love Beautiful but I just feel Deja Vu is superior in every aspect. The two personal tracks on Relapse and I think Deja Vu is on another level to Beautiful.

Firstly, Beautiful is one of the most self-pitying songs Em has ever done. I know that's the aim and yes, it tells us how down he was at the time, but Deja Vu does the same thing but in not such a self-pitying and in my view, irratating way.

Beautiful is solid lyrically but nothing special. Em's delivery of his lyrics on Deja Vu are class. He raps about the death of his best friend, fanstatically, without souding self-pitying:

Now I need it just not to feel sick ya I'm getting by
Wouldn't even be taking this shit if deshaun didn't die
Oh ya there's an excuse you lose proof so you use
There's new rules it's cool if it's helping you to get through

The chorus and ending are so ridiculously corny on Beautiful it's embarassing and I don't think the sample is needed. Deja Vu has a simple effective chorus and again a simple beat - apart from SWA, the best beat on Relapse.

What do you thnk?

... by a long shot :b: Deja Vu is definitely up there with his other classics, Beautiful is just an average song.

Deja Vu is in my top 10 Em songs.

Mine too, but not top 5 though. Deja Vu is the highlight of Relapse imo.

Not to me. In fact, Deja Vu feels like a filler IMO.

i like beautiful a bit more than deja vu, I would prefer deja vu a lot more if only he didnt use the accent
I'd love to go on Dragons Den with a shotgun

I think deja vu sounds really forced.
You think your personal attacks make up for what you lack?
