Lucid dreaming

Postby UzaKING » Mar 14th, '10, 07:20

A lucid dream is when you are in a dream and you know you are dreaming and you can manipulate what happens in your dream.
has this ever happend to any of you?
it has happend to me several times throughout my life probably less than 20 though
but it seems like most times it happens i wake up shortly after
anyone have any experience with this?

Yes, except my manipulation is usually to wake me up (in my dream, I push my eyelids up with my fingers), because they never go where I want them to.

Let me ask you this:
Have you ever had to reassure yourself that a nightmare was only a dream when you awakened? Like, you had to go check to make sure you're loved ones were still alive, or something like that.
Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.

Not sure if this should be in Serious Debate, as there isn't anything to debate on this issue.

Lucid dreaming is indeed real, and it happens to me on an almost regular basis. I have instances of lucid dreaming many times a month, usually.

I've come to even learn how to keep myself from waking up, to an extent. It's all about mental control, and keeping yourself from getting too excited, basically. I believe when you get too excited at the time the dream becomes lucid, you wake yourself up.

It's good stuff, for sure. :y:

True, but the intelligence level in Serious Debate is higher than that in The Afterparty, so the topic is better off here.

Good point, I'd say that's why the OP chose this area of the forum.

There really should be an "Intelligent Discussion" section to compliment, or perhaps replace, the Serious Debate section.

If you want to have a good nightmare, stay up for a couple of days.
Sleep deprivation leads to seratonin buildup in the central nervous system, which causes vivid, messed up dreams.

like if you got good enough at lucid dreaming it would be like living in two different worlds all the time and never sleeping but one of them you can control everything

I see those give you lucid dream induction techniques.
What I'm asking myself now is this: Do I want them?
It's pretty rare that I get a decent night's sleep.
In fact, getting to sleep by itself is so difficult for me, I probably wouldn't be able to get them to work anyway.
I appreciate the death-like comfort of dreamless sleep so much, that I frankly wouldn't want dreams that I have to put mental effort into.

HMmm takes a lot of dedication to have lucid dreaming I see.. I dont know if it'll work well with me because my dreams can be very realisitic. We actually talked about one of the techniques (menemonic induction of lucid dreaming) very briefly in my psychology course but I have yet to try it..

& believe me, you should be thankful about your lack of nightmares!

well I had one a couple of days ago, first it was a 'normal' dream with one of the weirdest images I've ever seen and I figured out it was a dream, and in the last half of it I had some control over it and it was even weirder than before... but when I went to the supermarket the same day (in reality) it continued in a day dream-like atmohspere

but usually I don't remember my dreams. sometimes I know I had one but the more awaken I become, the lesser the images get
so till this (really weird and somehow self-shocking) dream, the last dream I could clearly remember was a nightmare from when I was younger than 6 - I just can remember the dream, but nothing from my awakening or other circumstances to it

but sometimes I can remember, that I didn't dream in my native language - and sometimes not even in a language I actually understand in real life
Just a murderous Impulse!

Which is why i'm leaving it in here for now, because no doubt that would probably happen.

I've done both of those things (waking myself up included), and usually for some reason it's always my dog in my dreams that something bad happens to, i always have to get up and check if she's okay, she's just usually annoyed that i woke her up lol.

I actually had an annoying dream last night which turned into sleep paralysis (i get this ALOT) because i was trying to wake myself up & my mind didn't want to, so i was still dreaming but awake -_-

I usually have lucid dreaming in a nightmare though or just a bad dream where i'm trying to make myself invisible or fly (for some reason i never run :-k ).

I said "that's a side effect that you get
when you trade bad dreams for some great nightmares"

-- Joe Budden...

I'd take a great nightmare over a shitty dream, any day of the week.

but anyways lucid dreaming, idk if i've ever experienced it..but it must be sick to dive in your subconscious.
