English Article - Crime or Computer Games

Hello.

I have an assigment to do for my english class. I can choose between four tasks, and after some thinking, I have the option between these two:

Write an article where illuminate various factors that contribute to more crime in our society.

or

As the growth of the internet progresses, more and more people tend to get addicted to computer games. Write an article on the subject in question.


I am thinking of the first one. I think it is easier.

So what do you think? And could you help me out with links and your opinions and such?

A good film to see would be Bowling For Columbine which is Michael Moore documentary on gun control, crime, & various things, particularly with the youth.

Crime is a well known issue in every society. There are different types of crimes, for instance murder, burglary, pick pocketing, drug-dealing, kidnapping and economic swindle. All of these types of crime have something in common; they are illegal. Why do some people commit crimes regardless of the consequences? What factors contribute to more and more crime in the society today? I will take these questions in consideration while I reflect on this subject throughout this article.

Some common reasons are poverty, drugs and alcohol, social status, lack of education and family troubles. These reasons do eventually lead to a situation where crime is the only solution.

Well for one, I'd suggest changing the way you describe the types of crimes. Maybe something more like "...crimes can be violent, non-violent (such as destruction of property), involve drugs, be money related, or sexual. Often, these categories of crimes are interrelated and cross into different categories, such as violence stemming from the dealings of drugs."

Then maybe use those categories as topics, or like 3 of them, and then mention that crimes are worse when they cross categories. Just a thought, let me know if that works

I don't know what angle you're writing this from, but you could possibly point out somewhere in the article that the punishments (at least here in Norway) are so light that they don't really scare people away from committing crimes.

One thing is that here in Norway, the people in jail has it better than people in hospital or the house for old people. Forgot which one.
