What do you think will / should the future of music be?

Postby mrjizzbomber » Sep 7th, '10, 22:30

This has been on my mind for a while, and its a question sort of has two parts... dealing with two different aspects of music...

1 - The evolution of music itself. Clearly, the style and sound of music changes with generations. I hate to admit it, but it seems like techno, or at least overly-synthesized music seems to be the leading edge of the art. Where do you think music will go in the future? Will techno and technology take us into new genres, or will music make a U turn and go somewhere different? What do you see being pop 10, 20, 30 years from now?

2 - The business of music. Clearly, the concept of selling music through albums isn't going to last. Album sales decline year after year. What do you think will replace this medium? Will albums, as a concept, become entirely obsolete? Basically, what I'm questioning is how will artists, labels, etc make money off music in the future? I think that the way we currently consume music is going to dramatically change in the near future, but can't quite envision how...

I refuse to put any thought into this post :flutter:
They claim that I'm violent, just cause I refuse to be silent
These hypocrites are havin fits, cause I'm not buyin it
Defyin it, envious because I will rebel against
any oppressor, and this is known as self defense
I show no mercy, they claim that I'm the lunatic
But when the shit gets thick, I'm the one you go and get
Don't look confused, the truth is so plain to see
Cause I'm the nigga that you sell-outs are ashamed to be

I feel like singers will be around for a long time, solo artists that do "pop" music.

Rap will be around as popular music for I think 20-25 years, but constantly move more underground because very very few rap artists sell nowadays, and I don't think any new rap artist can ever get to the levels of Eminem or Jay EVER, no matter if they had the buzz twice that of when 50 entered the game.

Boy bands will always go through cycles of popularity.

And that's all I have to say :y:

I guess what I'm getting at is... do you see any indications of a brand new genre emerging? Sort of like how 1900s had Rock n Roll did in the mid-century and hip-hop/rap in the late-century. It seems like each century sees 3 or 4 major new genres emerge, complete game changers.

I listen to todays music and it doesn't seem like anything too different or groundbreaking is coming out. Compare it to the 1990s and 2000s(decade), year 2010 just seems like more of the same. But maybe I am not being very insightful.

Over the next 15 or so years artist's will start to lose control as none of them will be selling enough to make any money, and rioting will ensue. Eventually the government will step in and ban music all together, and anyone who tries to make any will be shot on sight. After 5 or so years of musical prohibition, malcontent will rise amongst the people, and once again rioting will ensue. However; this time there will be too much. The government won't be able to handle the hundreds of thousands of people tearing into the countries resources and the US currency, later followed by all other currencies will become obsolete due to the popularity of robberies.

In 2036 what will be known as "The Musical Rebellion" will take place, and over 3,900,000 people around the world will begin tearing their respective governments apart piece by piece. The world leaders will then band together, move to a secret base in Antarctica with their families, and start dropping random and very small nukes in various places around the world. Electricity and running water will no longer exist, at least not by means of the large companies that currently provide it.. and that is where the people will start to turn on each other. After 100,000 people or so are killed by the bombings the fear will really start to set in. The people will turn on each other over small things such as water and territory. Smaller groups will start to create alliances in order to hoard what little supplies and food there is left. Radiation sickness will run rampant and kill off ten times more people per year than are being born, and of those born only 10% will survive due to the lack of medical resources.

In 2041 more than half of the population will have started to reach out to their former leaders in an attempt to escape the horror that now surrounds them, but those who are discovered doing so will be killed. Over time these attacks will develop into a full-scale civil war amongst the entire world, and by this point there are several thousand nuclear bombs spread amongst the various fighting countries.

The people can't take it any longer.. In 2045, the first large set of nukes is dispatched, killing almost two million people, and then it happens. All across the world bombs are launched as counter-measures, and a nuclear holocaust ensues. By 2046 there are less than 1,000,000 survivors on the 6 warring continents. A harsh and constant winter sets over the entire planet. Food becomes even more scarce than it was before; and the little that can be found is, for the most part, contaminated.

By this time the world leaders have created a small population of their own in Antarctica in an underground base. Communications have long been destroyed, however; and they are completely unaware of the tragedy that has occurred over the last 4 years. Their resources soon become short as well, and they are forced from hiding. On the surface they find the cold winter they had seen when they first arrived, but they will be devastated to find out that the same cold, dead winter has consumed the entire globe. Cannibalism has become common practice at this point, and when they do end up back home, the few remaining humans will immediately attack in fear of never seeing another chance at a meal; and by the time 2052 rolls around, there are under 100,000 humans left scattered throughout the entire world... and it will continue to drop.

We're fucked.
