Eh calculations based on...?Assumptions mostly.But i don't really need mathematical proof to be aware that there are other civilizations in space.I've always thought that there is no way we are the only ones in the universe.Scientist only know very few things about our own galaxy,they have no clue what's beyond that lol.It will probably take a long time for them to understand black holes and will probably take other hundred of years till we have the technology to actually understand our galaxy.IMO

While the 'variables' he's using to calculate this out seem sensible and logical, they're assumptions. He's just assuming that because we have all those on earth, that in order for advanced life to exist elsewhere, all the same variables have to exist on another planet as well. I mean, it does make a bit of sense, but, it's just mathematical guessing in my opinion.
But I definitely think that there is advanced life somewhere, especially when you take into consideration the mind boggling enormity of the universe. There's no way that just one small planet is the ONLY one that has life.

The funny thing about the Drake Equation, and other theories for that matter, is that we assume that these 'aliens' have to be inhabiting a planet similar to ours, we assume that all potential life needs the same building blocks as we do.

For all we know there could be alien life built for planets of very high temperature, or built for planets of very low temperature. Just look at the latest discovery they made regarding the definition of life on our very own planet. They found out that some forms of life have arsenic in their building blocks.

For all we know there could be aliens that we cannot see, nor hear. Especially if you take into account how weak our eyes and ears are compared to animals on our planet.
