I think, the only thing that could benefit the Libyan people right now, is to let them organize their own political structure. Of course, there will be chaos and people will argue about what kind of structure they should use, however, eventually, in the long run, they will benefit the most of organizing their own political structure.

Every empire on this earth has fallen, and in every case it made way for new empires to flourish. Looking at the status quo of Libya, I can only conclude one thing: Gaddafi's authority must be taken away, and the Libyans must take control of their own country again.

I hope you're trolling. So, if Bush rigged the last election he won, does it mean Americans need "to be taught"? Ghadaffi is a bad person oppressing good people.

And by the way 82% of the population can read and write 270,000 of whom study at the tertiary level - highest literacy in North Africa

Oh, the irony of selling Gaddafi weapons which he'll use against us.

I can only concur with Zu's comments - it's all very well the West taking on Gaddafi - the problem is when it's over (which won't be soon, I can assure you - this isn't a quick fix) we'll set up a government over there which will be hated by the Libyan people (and rightly so, they don't want a government that doesn't understand their culture/history) which will lead to riots and more chaos on the streets.

Anyone see a cycle here?

This is why it will turn into another Iraq for the civilian population in Libya. Even throughout history it is known that when a country is feeling financial difficulty it goes to war, either to divert the public attention away from the real problems or to score a quick money fix. Not every country can have the same style of democracy as the U.S or the U.K. This is what people need to get into their heads. Just doesn't work that way. My country tried it in the 90's when the West supported that drunk Yeltsin who sent 50% of the population into poverty :facepalm Fast forward to 2011 poverty is at 13%(same as UK) the economy has boomed for 12 years while still holding aspects of Democracy and it gets criticized. Some countries just can't have it like that and it would take 50 odd years to develop the foundation of democracy people have in the west.

Also in 1969, when Gaddafi over threw the royal family of Libya and made the Libyan Arab Republic the U.K wanted to remove him and bring back the royal family HOWEVER they decided against it as the U.S government at the time thought Gaddafi was Anti-Marxist and would be best to protect and serve their interests....

and today, Gaddafi's buys mercenaries to join Libya's military to kill 'pro-democracy' Libyans at will, in the SAME way Yemen's president(Pro-U.S) allowed his military snipers to shoot down in cold blood 50-plus unarmed protesting Yemeni dissidents. The U.S are engaging in a third war at a time when the country is struggling under an enormous debt and involved in two other wars.

What really annoys me is the American public fall for the same trick every time. You would think that a developed Western society could see through all this bullshit :coffee: Seems the TV has brainwashed a lot of the masses.

Also find it funny that in the 80's the Afghans fighting the Soviets were called freedom fighters now they are called terrorists

I've found an interesting article on how Libya, right now, might be a showcase for weaponry.

Special Report: How Libya is a showcase in the new arms race

Warning: it's quite long...

Just on the premises of how uneducated the Libyans are you want the West to be in control? No single Western country has the right to take over that country, it is against International law. Yes, the country is rich in terms of natural resources, but that should be left to benefit the Libyans, and the Libyans only.

in taking over libya, iight not let the US do it,let the UN do it,the country is rich as fuck with natural resources, let them be used, let those uneducated get educated, why would i want everything to stay the same, what do u think will happen after gaddafi goes,LIBYANS ARE NOT ABLE TO CONTROL THERE OWN COUNTRY,they cant build a government, elect a president, they just cant, somebody needs to atleast tell them how, thats a fact, they just arent qualified, they need help,if not the US the UN,things need to get better, not stay the same or get worse.

this section is very fuckin enjoyable btw,u can get shit out,lol

Who are you to say that they cannot run their own country? Every nation should have the liberty to rule over themselves. Whether or not we agree with how they run it is a different story, but it doesn't matter.
