Haha not Bizarre level rhyming. I don't know how you could write something with rhymes THAT basic though.
Amadeo wrote:I think double entendres are easier to do than rhyming well. They don't say that puns are the lowest form of wit for nothing. Triple entendres...a little harder to do and requires more brainpower. But they'll never make me go "wow."
I don't know. I'm not trying to say rhyming is EASY, and there's some simple double entendre's, but I think given enough time, anyone can write something that rhymes well. I remember I posted this verse a guy from SL wrote while trying to prove to people that Relapse wasn't all that impressive. I'm sure I can dig it up if you want.
Lupe's first two albums have some great triple+ entendre's.
Amadeo wrote:Multies, on the other hand, whether you like them or not, are a learned skill. Not anyone can write 8-syllable multis. The local butcher down the road can't, and neither can my mailman...mainly because they don't even know what they are. But those two people have probably made over 1000 puns/plays on words in their lives.
Yeah I'm not trying to say they're
easy to write, but I think if you give me enough time, I could come up with a verse filled with multies but I probably couldn't do that as well with other forms of lyricism.
Amadeo wrote:Using multis means you care about the overall sound of the lyrics. Using punchlines means...um...you can isolate two meanings of the same word. I don't think rappers should even bother with them. Most of them make me want to die...even the ones from good rappers.
I definitely think multies should be used to an extent. Using a lot of multies while saying exactly what you want to say how you want to say it, without changing the way you phrase things just to add rhymes (Crooked I) can be very impressive. AZ's verse on Life's a Bitch and Saying Goodbye to Hollywood are two great examples of that.
As for punchlines, I don't really like them either. Unless you have a really, really good one, I don't think they should be added into your song. Joe Budden used to have some great ones, though.

Agreed. I think Underground is just a bit of fun from Eminem, but it's not impressive.
I'll sure as hell take Relapse Eminem (whose filler songs consisted of long strings of multis) over Recovery Eminem (whose filler songs consisted of lame punchlines) though.
Yeah I actually think I agree with that. Mostly because Recovery has no traces of entendre's, metaphors, or anything like that other than horrible punchlines and extremely basic wordplay. Relapse is at least interesting to some degree. Underground is pretty bad though imo.
Rhyming can be impressive, I just think at times it can bring down lyricism when people force rhymes that are unnecessary into songs.
