It's the zombie apocalypse, are they planning on rebuilding society?

That last episode was shocking.
Am I the only one who thinks it's irresponsible and stupid to choose death because of the baby in these conditions leaving it in charge of others? Lori was useful for the whole group but now the group is smaller and everyone has to be alert because of the baby.
