There are trillions of galaxies, each galaxy containing trillions of stars, I don't know how many of those stars contain planets but even if it was like 1% that would leave an uncountably high amount of planets. To think we're the only planet where life formed is insane.

And now they're thinking there could be multiple universes which would shoot the number of planets practically to infinity.

Well, it may be a reasonable inference.

To say there definitely is life out there is not sound reasoning.

But yeah, there very well could be.

I sometimes wonder if there's an alternate universe out there. In this universe, was a born a guy instead of a girl? Did the Patriots win over the Giants in the Superbowl? Is Jersey Shore quality programming?

It is considered pretty much a fact that there are other universes out there. Not parallel universes (that hasn't been proven yet) but if you consider the universe to be everything that we can see (4x10^28 meters) then there are many other universes out there because the mass that is contained in out universe is an incredibly small amount compared to everything. So due to the finite combinations of matter it is almost certain that there are alternate universes both exactly like ours and almost exactly like ours with only a few things different.
