The Bushs are the latest public figures to fall victim to online hacking. Private information was revealed about the families of both former U.S. Presidents after a hacker under the alias "Guccifer" intercepted emails from Dorothy Bush Koch, sister of George W. Bush.
On an account uploaded to the Web yesterday, the hacker exposed private Bush family emails and photos dating as far back as 2009. In addition, the hacker gained access to the home addresses and cell phone numbers of at least 20 Bush kin.
The most controversial information regarded the hospitalization of George H.W. Bush, and also included a picture of the elder president on a hospital bed. His children, including the younger President Bush, discussed plans for their father's funeral via email after his illness had seemingly taken a turn for the worse in December. Jeb Bush, one of the 41st President's four sons, discussed his father's relationship with his presidential successor, Bill Clinton.
In the email sent to his siblings titled, "Report on Dad," Jeb recalled “how kind he was with President Clinton and he helped restore his sordid reputation. A very tough thing to do but with kindness, dad probably helped Bill Clinton than anything he himself has done.” He also wrote that it “might be tough to say it that way in a eulogy with President 42 [Clinton] there.”
Other hacked images showed George W. Bush with designer Ralph Lauren, as well as a candid shot of him standing next to a cardboard cutout of himself. The hacked emails also revealed paintings by the younger President Bush, including one of himself in the shower.
The Secret Service is investigating the hack. Guccifier remains unidentified.
