I also read that he just felt like he was too old to keep dyeing his hair, it was like he was going to do it and he was like "I looked at myself and was like "fuck it, I'm 36 years old, I can't keep doing this shit forever" (this was in 2009, I'm looking for the interview right now but I'm having a hard time finding it).

SajN's reason could be right too, in "My Darling" when the demon inside him told him to dye his hair back, he was like "AHH! NO!" or whatever.

Nah, I think he just said "That was me being stupid on drugs", I don't think he actually said that he thought he was getting too old for it. I've only read the book once fully though, so I don't know.
