It's been a topic of discussion since 2009. I'll have to read it, but these findings have been out there for at least 5 years now. I'll have to read the article to know whether or not this is a verification of these findings or what, but either way...it wasn't widely discussed then, I'd be surprised if it is now.

Yeah, this article adds nothing. It's about 5 years late to the party, as the paper was published in 2009, with Steve Jones' work on it dating another 4 years before that. It's not being discussed now because everyone has already dismissed the findings as bullshit for a while now. Not saying that's the case, just that the mainstream opinion is that those flakes are an anti rusting paint for the beams.
Here's an article from someone that believes the science behind this article is so bad that it's a deliberate distraction from the real truth.
