First time he dun been genuinely funny, witty and entertaining in years.
I mean, we all know how much I ludz Relapse and he was witty and... everything on it but it was more-so just kind of an oddity. Eloquent and an oddity of a vibe, which I lud.
But in terms of being genuinely fun and real-life funny, not just shoving shit up asses or play violence or desperation tactics since Encore... it's been a damn while.
The level of improvement in terms of every aspect of his game even down to the most basics of his projection of character and his personality on the mic, on this from Recovery... is huge.
It's also some of the funniest he's been ever, period because he's the most comfortable he's ever been in his skin, not feeling the need to be hyper-violent or hyper-silly but just as simple and subtle as ''kool aid stain on the couch... I'll never get it out ", it's more amazing to make the ordinary extraordinary and make shit like that entertaining when it so shouldn't be. I really hope he continues down this path because with this track he found a way to chronicle his existence without it being really boring and predictable ''this is my life, feel sad or angry, this is what happened'' literal aspie format like a documentary for feellz; instead, this shit reflects his situation and mindset aka being a rich guy trying to find something to complain about but it's really comical and self-deprecating and entertaining as fuck ; he was like comic-level funny in SSLP and MMLP era but it was never a realistic humour, it was always very dramatized sarcasm or provocation...
But this shit is like Em the adult being genuinely funny about his life, taking the piss out of his need to complain and being a spoiled fuck etc., it's interesting to follow because of the real life feel to it but it's a constant mix of surreal storytelling and crazy-ass flow and rhymes too. Certified top shelf shit.
It's also a true new direction for him to go in and one which makes sense. Keeping the elements of surrealism to not limit him to an absolute literal storytelling path but enough truth and mirroring to make us know it's from a real source and a way to artistically reflect his age and be like this complaining old dad of hip-hop, which he can pull off brilliantly with his humour and personality. And it's a way to not regress, place a manic focus on skill and song-making and keep the music evolving without turning back or just being stupid.
Please continue down this path Em. Sincerely: Base.
