My computer's screwed

Postby Requiem » Sep 20th, '09, 17:22

Here's the problem....
Computer works fine until log in screen. I get a dwwin.exe error, and a drwtsn32.exe error. And if i try and close out of it, it creates a chain of error messages and prevents me from doing ANYTHING. Task manager won't come up either, and when i hit ctrl, alt, delete, my computer starts making noises :(

ALL HELP will be appreciated, all my files are on that computer. including my new music that i was about to post on TR. :'(

a dying hard drive typically doesn't cause beep codes (the series of beeps your seeing). A dying hard drive will usually result in blue screen errors along with an extremely slow boot. Sounds to me like you have either bad RAM or a virus.

care to do a teamviewer session? i can connect to your PC remotely and do a virus scan for you, it may fix your problem.

BTW, i work at Best Buy for Geek Squad. They'll charge you $99 for any data under 9.4GB and 149.99 for anything over.

If you wanna let me give a whack at it go to http://teamviewer.com/index.aspx and download Teamviewer, install it and IM me on AIM at DelinQuentisDQ and i'll do what i do and hopefully get you all fixed up.

yeah, i work for geek squad.

you can't get past the log in, can't open task manager, that screams virus to me.

what you wanna do is shut the computer off. turn it on and start hitting f8 repeatedly until you get to the option to enter safe mode. choose "Safe Mode with Networking". This should allow you onto the computer with internet access enabled. From there do a google search for "MalwareBytes" click the first result and download the free tool. then install it and run a full scan with it. It'll take a little while to scan, but there's a good chance it'll find your virus and remove it.

EDIT-Don't have MSN, sorry.

i'm guessing your using a flat-panel LCD monitor.

The viewing angle for LCD screens is less than that of CRT monitors. So what you're seeing is completely normal. The only way to fix that is to turn the monitor and angle it basically.

At this stage, it sounds like the virus has completely corrupted your OS (Windows XP/Vista/Whatever you're using)

the surefire method is to now completely format your hard drive and reinstall windows to start fresh.
